St. Bernardus Tripel Belgian Abbey Ale is so good it makes me want to quit my job, take a vow of silence, become a monk, and brew this beer all day.
It doesn’t look like anything special – just a regular blonde lager with a head of froth. It tastes a bit like a wheat beer with a smidge of fruit, easy-to-guzzle and impossible to guess that it’s 8% alc. This is the second St. Bernardus I’ve tried – both were given as perfect housewarming gifts – and both left an impression.
The unfortunate part of St. Bernardus is that it is relatively expensive and not widely available. But any time I see that smiling monk on the label, I’ll be reaching for it. And who knows? Maybe one day I’ll make my way to the motherland: The Belgian abbey where they brew this stuff, for me to live out the remainder of my days.
