Every time I browse the shelves at the beer store, ‘Double IPA’ always stands out, even if it’s on an otherwise boring label. This goes doubly true for beers I haven’t tried before. The reason I like double IPAs is it punches a harder, and if I’m going to drink beer, I might as well drink beer.
Boulevard’s The Calling IPA has all the classic IPA flavors, including 8.5 alc. yet somehow lighter on the punch than other doubles. It’s a really good beer, but if there’s any points to deduct, it’s for originality, as it’s a rather safe recipe. I’m digging it though, will always recommend it, but the next time I see it on the shelf I’ll likely look for something new to try, and only double back if nothing else strikes my eye.
