Perhaps I felt the eyes of the hatted dame staring at me with a ‘come hither, sailer,’ invitation, soliciting me to try Founders Porter, which looks and tastes like a stout. Though I’ll admit I’m not big into dark beers – I find them too thick and filling – this one leaves a pleasant aftertaste that sets it apart from the porters that make me want to puke. The taste is almost sweet, perhaps with a tint of chocolate and caramel. It’s not exactly the taste I’d associate with this dame eyeing me from across the pub, but a pleasant surprise nonetheless.
